The CellCheck Milking For Quality Award is presented to 500 milk suppliers throughout Ireland with the lowest, weighted annual average somatic cell count (SCC) for the previous year's supply.
Jack has been working in various agriculture roles since completing his degree in Animal Sciences at University College Dublin (UCD), where he specialised in Animal and Crop Production. These roles have included areas such as Grassland Research and time in New Zealand as a Dairy Herd Assistant, where he managed the spring calving dairy herd. Today he manages his family farm in Galbally, Co. Limerick milking 70 pedigree Holstein Friesian cows as well as working a full-time job for Devenish.
"I started with Devenish five years ago as a Ruminant Nutritionist," Jack said. "Working a full-time job and also managing the farm can be a challenge but it is rewarding. The roles definitely complement each other, and in my role as a farmer I am able to see in practice the importance of good animal nutrition."
"Since moving on to Devenish minerals I have seen a big improvement in overall herd health, which has made my work at the farm much easier. The cows are fed Mag12 all year round to prevent acidosis and DeviSafe in the Dry Cow Minerals to assist the dry and transition cow period."
Morgan Sheehy, Ruminant Director, Devenish congratulated Jack for picking up the award. Morgan said "The Milking For Quality Award is a major accolade, and Jack's success is a testament to his hard work and commitment to quality on-farm. On behalf of all of us at Devenish I would like to congratulate Jack on this impressive achievement."
